Beginner Running Project

Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent (SASSOT) has been successful in gaining Sport England funding to support recreational running and in partnership with the South Staffordshire Athletics Network and Run England we are creating opportunities for beginner runners to get into the sport.

On June 15th 2012 Derwent Runners will be staging their event, The Hairy Helmet Relay, from Darley Abbey Cricket Club in Darley Park at 7pm.

For those who haven't heard of this race before it is a 4 stage relay with each leg just over 2 miles in distance which takes in a circuit of Derby's best park. Through sponsorship from local businesses this year we have been able to donate the entire profits from your entries to Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.

The race entry is £3 per team member, your prize for taking part is a pint from a choice of one of the leading local breweries these being either Derventio, Dancing Duck or Mr Grundy's.

Afterwards there will the chance to sample the other beers on offer, food and some music.

Please encourage all your runners to consider this as there is something for everyone. The distance for firstly encourages new runners to take part, or you may want to challenge last years course record of 11minutes and 8 seconds set, or raise money for Rainbows Hospice (we have sponsorship forms should you want any), alternatively we have found this a great club social evening.

It would be great if you could take a couple of minutes to look at the website

Here is the link for the entry

Last year at our first running of this event we had 88 teams this year we are aiming for 125 and if we reach our target with your entries it means that you will raise £1500 for Rainbows.

Should you have any enquiries about taking part please forward them to me at hairyhelmetrelay@gmail.com.
